Food and Nutrition
Our chefs delight in providing nutritious and well-balanced homemade meals for the children. The food is freshly prepared on site every day, using high quality seasonal ingredients. The food is not only delicious: we encourage children to take an interest in healthy eating and to know where their food comes from. This helps them make future healthy food choices.
We believe that mealtime should be a happy, relaxed social occasion. At Buttons, children sit in small groups and enjoy family-style meal time with their friends. Meal times are the perfect time to promote independence, good manners and sociable behaviour. We encourage children to serve, talk to each other and clear away at the meal’s end.
What's on the Menu?
We have rotating menus of three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and tea. Drinks and healthy snacks of fresh fruit, vegetables and water and milk are also served throughout the day. Our menus reflect a diversity of cultures, giving children a taste of the wider world. Please see a sample menu below.
For the babies
Babies at Little Hens start on formula milk, moving on to baby rice, rusks, pureed food and finally chunky food prepared from the older children’s menu. We welcome breast-feeding mothers, providing storage for expressed milk.
